Perched on the rugged edge of Berrara’s coastal cliffs, Bombora is more than a home — it’s a statement of what’s possible when architecture and engineering come together in perfect harmony. The site drops dramatically towards the South Pacific Ocean, offering breathtaking views and a build environment that demands precision, innovation and respect for the natural elements.

Designed by Salt Building Design and brought to life by Sureline Building Group, this residence captures the essence of coastal living — open, grounded, and deeply connected to its surroundings.

The Vision

The brief was clear: craft a modern coastal sanctuary that feels light, effortless, and deeply connected to the ocean — without compromising structure or longevity. Every detail was designed around the view, the sound of the waves, and the experience of the changing light throughout the day.

From the moment you approach the property, the design language blends clean lines, natural textures and warm tones. The home feels anchored in its landscape yet visually floats above the horizon — a subtle nod to the name Bombora, the ocean swell that breaks offshore before reaching land.

Architectural Highlights

Cliff-Edge Construction – Engineered foundations and reinforced slabs anchor the home to the sandstone beneath, while cantilevered decks extend towards the sea for uninterrupted views.

Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Living – Oversized stacking glass doors open onto expansive decks and a louvre-roof entertaining area, blurring the line between inside and out.

Coastal Material Palette – CSR Barestone Fibre Cement, James Hardie Matrix, and Hardwood shiplap cladding create a timeless mix of texture and durability suited to harsh coastal conditions .

Polished Concrete Floors & Hydronic Heating – Deliver both performance and comfort, grounded in thermal efficiency.

Natural Light & Ventilation – A strategic window layout maximises cross-ventilation and morning light, ensuring the home breathes with the coast.

Integrated Pool & Terrace Zone – The wet-edge pool overlooks the cliff face, designed with a sand filter system and spill tank to minimise visual impact and noise .

Sustainability & Performance

Bombora meets NSW BASIX requirements with a 3500 L rainwater tank servicing outdoor taps and the spa, LED lighting throughout, heat-pump hydronic heating and cooling, and a 6 kW solar PV system for on-site generation .
Every element — from thermal insulation to the orientation of windows — has been considered to deliver a comfortable, energy-efficient coastal home that performs in N5 wind conditions and corrosive marine air.
